Our Story

caféAtaraxia was born from a simple belief: mornings deserve more intention. We're a small-batch roastery and bagel shop in Parede, Portugal, dedicated to the art of slow mornings and better rituals — a place where every cup is a reason to pause.

Why "Ataraxia"? (English: ah-tuh-RAK-see-uh · Português: a-ta-ra-KSEE-a) It's an old philosophical idea: a state of calm, free from emotional disturbance and anxiety. That's what we're chasing in every cup — not caffeine-fueled chaos, but a genuine, grounded moment of good.

Coffee Worth Savouring

We source high quality and single-origin, specialty-grade beans that meet SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) standards. Each lot is carefully selected for its character — the terroir of the farm, the hands that harvested it. Our coffee isn't just a drink; it's a story in every sip.

Freshly Roasted in Parede

We roast our own beans right here in Parede, in small, carefully controlled batches rather than mass-produced runs. Small-batch roasting lets us bring out the best in every origin, so what reaches your cup is as fresh and vibrant as possible — full of the aromatic oils and complexity. From green bean to your morning ritual, every step happens with care.

We sell our beans whole or ground, ready for your home espresso machine, French press, filter, or moka pot — because great coffee shouldn't be limited to a café counter.

New York-Style Bagels & Baked Goods

Alongside our coffee, we hand-craft New York-style bagels and a rotating selection of cakes and loaves, alongside our own house-fermented kimchi. Made with quality ingredients and real technique — the kind of chew and crust that only comes from doing it properly, batch by batch. Our food is designed to complement the coffee and make your morning feel complete.
